Eight Bells - Simon “Fumsey” Russell
published 01/07/2021

A friend and a special person to many, Simon “Fumsey” Russell, has sadly passed away after a short period of illness with COVID-19. Simon was much loved by his family, his girls and Audrey and a great many friends in the sailing and motorcar world. Based in and around Hamble for many years he sailed regularly in XOD’s and was often seen competing in HRSC club races. He was twice Etchells Class World Champion, sailing with Brother-in-law Roger Marino, Nik Pearson and Stuart Childerley. This sad news puts everything into perspective. He was a great friend and world class sailor and dearly missed. However we are left with many very special memories. When sailing the Etchells we learnt so much from Fumsey, through his contribution to our success and about friendships. So many others will have the same perspective, as he helped others and shared his humour and friendship. This approach and dedication was also seen during his time sailing with friends in the XODs and was twice winner of the Captains Cup at Cowes Week.
We send our condolences, thoughts and prayers to all the family and his many special friends. Fair winds Fumsey... and wishing you a safe anchorage our friend.
