Shroud Stabilizer Loop
published 08/15/2017
QUESTION: Is it permissible to use rope or elastic to tighten or stabilize the shrouds by deflecting them toward each other?
ANSWER: No.
The Etchells Class One Design Technical Committee and Chief Measurer have determined that the use of ‘shroud stabilizer loops’ on Etchells to snug the shrouds and stabilize the rig represents an illegal adjustment to standing rigging in contravention of CR C.9.7(b)(1), and thus their use is not allowed.
Etchells Class Rule C.9.7 STANDING RIGGING
(b) USE (1) Shrouds shall be adjusted, only by turnbuckles attached to chainplates above the deck.
