Etchells Australia President’s Update

Mark Roberts, President of the International Etchells Class of Australia, updates us with exciting news about the season ahead, and reports on the ongoing hull review under the direction of the international body.
"The Australian Association has been using the winter months to plan for what should be a cracking summer. The instigation of new initiatives, such as the Etchells Championships League, which will allow our fleets to race in home waters, whilst at the same time competing against their mates from across Australia is just one of the exciting new things that our members will have coming into the new season. We also launch a new Australian Championship regatta series, and will continue to promote and assist Corinthians with free coaching at major national events. All in all, it is going to be a very big year, and I can't wait!"

Revised Schedule for future World Championships

International Etchells Class Announces a revised schedule for future World Championships
After careful consideration and in collaboration with the confirmed hosts of the next four World Championships, the International Etchells Class Association announces a revised schedule. The 2020 World Championship has been cancelled however, the Swan River Fleet in Fremantle, Western Australia is now set to host in November 2021. In addition the next three World Championships are confirmed for 2022 in Cowes GBR, 2023 in Miami USA, and 2024 in Melbourne, AUS.

As the future timetable is taking time to resolve, the November 2020 World Championship in Fremantle has been cancelled. Alternative arrangements are under consideration and expect to be announced within weeks.

Jib Track Setup Clarification

The ODTC and IGC have previously issued interpretive rulings regarding deck recesses and specific limits on their size and placement to comply with Class Rules C.7.1(d), D.2.3(a) and D.2.3(b). As the Class is currently trending towards more inboard jib sheeting, the ODTC wishes to advise the Class Membership of its position with respect to this issue to avoid future conflicts.
