Benjamin wins 2020 Sidney Doren Memorial Regatta

The Sidney Doren Memorial Regatta, the second event of the 2019-20 Etchells Biscayne Bay Series, attracted 41 teams on January 11-12 in Miami, FL. Steve Benjamin’s team on Stella Blue with crew Michael Menninger, Ian Liberty, and Joseph Morris won the regatta.

Benjamin wins Louis Piana Cup Regatta

The Etchells Biscayne Bay Series has been one of the major Etchells regatta series since 1994, attracting competitors has from all over the world. The 2019-20 edition got underway with 47 boats for the Louis Piana Cup Regatta on December 7-8 in Miami, FL. Steve Benjamin and Scott Kaufman led the only two teams to post all top ten scores in the four race series, with Benjamin taking the win by two points over Kaufman.

Steely Bill – One man who will forever be upstanding

It was at the 50th Birthday celebration for the Etchells last November that one Bill Steele was left standing alone in the room. He was not there on his own, for the Girdis Room at the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron was a complete sell out. It was just a mark of admiration of the man for the Class, and of his fellow Etchellians for the great sailor, ‘Steely Bill’, as he is so affectionately known.

Panacea - Sailing Etchells is always the cure

The Etchells Queensland State Championship was held from November 8 to 10. Southport Yacht Club was the host from both its Main Beach and Hollywell (Runaway Bay) facilities, with the racing conducted offshore along the glorious Gold Coast.
